Why check grammar and spelling

Spelling mistakes, missing commas and wrong word forms make a text harder to read and make the author look careless, whether it's a job application, an essay, a business email or a social media post. Even careful writers miss their own typos, because we read what we expect to see. An automatic check finds these errors in seconds, so you can fix them before anyone else sees them.

The checker is based on LanguageTool, an open-source proofreading engine, and runs on our own server; your text is not stored. It supports 25 languages in 31 variants, such as British and American English, and can detect the language automatically. It finds spelling mistakes, grammar errors, punctuation and style issues and suggests corrections: click a highlighted word to see the explanation and apply a fix. Picky mode adds stricter style checks. You can check up to 20,000 characters at a time.
