What is Markdown

Markdown is a simple way to format text with ordinary characters: # for headings, **two asterisks** for bold, *one asterisk* for italic, a hyphen for list items and [text](address) for links. It is used on GitHub, in README files, documentation, forums and many note-taking apps, because it is easy to write and easy to read even before it is converted.
