About the accent remover

Many languages write letters with marks: the accents of French é and è, the tilde of Spanish ñ, the umlaut of German ü, the háček of Czech ř and the cedilla of ç. This tool removes these marks and keeps the letters, so Crème brûlée in São Paulo becomes Creme brulee in Sao Paulo. It works for every language written in Latin letters, and for Greek too, where Αθήνα becomes Αθηνα. Capital letters, spaces, punctuation and emoji stay as they are, and the counter shows how many letters were changed.

Some letters are not simply a letter with a mark, such as ß, æ, ø, œ and ł: they are written the usual way, as ss, ae, o, oe and l, unless you turn this option off. In Cyrillic, only stress marks are removed, since й and ё are letters of their own. Plain letters are what you need for web addresses, file names, user names and e-mail addresses, for searching and sorting, and for older programs and databases that can't handle accents. Your text never leaves your browser.
