Why convert PDF to plain text

Selecting and copying the text of a long PDF by hand is slow, and the result is easy to get wrong. Converting the PDF to plain text gives you all of its text at once, page by page, ready to paste into an email, a translator, a word processor or a program that only reads TXT files. Plain text is also the simplest format for searching, quoting and archiving documents.

You can mark where each page starts, edit the text, copy it or download it as a UTF-8 TXT file that keeps every language and alphabet. Password-protected PDFs open after you enter the password. Scanned PDFs contain pictures of pages instead of text, so there's no text to extract from them without text recognition (OCR). Tables and columns come out as plain lines of text, without their layout.
