What a UUID is

A UUID (universally unique identifier), called GUID in the Microsoft world, is a 128-bit number written as 32 hexadecimal digits in five groups, such as 123e4567-e89b-42d3-a456-426614174000. Programs use UUIDs as keys of database records, names of files and identifiers of orders, users and messages, because anyone can create them without a central register and they practically never repeat. A UUID of version 4 has 122 random bits: you would have to create a billion of them every second for decades before a single duplicate became likely.

A UUID of version 7 starts with the time of its creation in milliseconds, so new UUIDs sort in the order they were made, which keeps database indexes fast. Generate up to 1,000 UUIDs at once, in lowercase or uppercase, with or without hyphens and in curly braces, as some Windows tools expect. The UUIDs are made in your browser by its cryptographically secure random generator and are never sent anywhere.
