Typing Speed Test

Choose a duration, click the text and start typing: the timer starts with your first key. Correct letters turn dark, mistakes are marked in red, and you can fix them with Backspace. The speed is measured in words per minute (WPM), where every five characters count as one word, so the result doesn't depend on how long the words are. The test also shows characters per minute and your accuracy, the share of keys you pressed correctly. Only correctly typed characters count toward your speed.

An average typist reaches about 40 words per minute, that is 200 characters, 50 to 60 words is a good result for office work, and professional typists often type 70 words per minute and more. Accuracy matters as much as speed: practice slowly until you make almost no mistakes, keep your fingers on the home row and try not to look at the keyboard.
